About the Role

The Freshman Coach reports to the Head Coach, Director of Athletics, and High School Principal, and will assume assignments as directed by the Head Coach. Responsibilities include scheduling and filing practice sessions, managing equipment, attending meetings with the Athletic Management Team, ensuring compliance with M.I.A.A. rules, maintaining records, and assisting with varsity team needs. The role also involves conducting clinics for elementary students, enhancing personal coaching knowledge, and ensuring athlete safety during practices, games, and travel.

As part of the coaching and supervisory system, the Freshman Coach plays a key role in the development of student-athletes by fostering communication with adults to identify resources, engaging with community youth sports, encouraging parental and booster involvement, balancing academic and athletic priorities, supporting college application processes, connecting athletes with college coaches per NCAA regulations, and identifying scholarship opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and file practice sessions with the Head Coach.
  • Assist in the issue, security, and upkeep of equipment.
  • Attend meetings with the Athletic Management Team and other coaches as requested.
  • Ensure M.I.A.A. rules and regulations are followed by all players and coaches.
  • Maintain records as requested.
  • Conduct clinics for elementary students.
  • Participate in clinics to enhance personal coaching knowledge.
  • Ensure the safety and security of athletes during practices, games, locker rooms, and travel.
  • Assist with the varsity team as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head Coach or Director of Athletics.
  • Actively nurture and develop student-athletes in alignment with MIAA regulations.
  • Establish communication with adults to identify resources for athletic program enhancement.
  • Engage with community youth sports to encourage high school participation.
  • Develop outreach to parents and booster clubs.
  • Maintain a balance between academic and athletic experiences for students.
  • Monitor student academic progress.
  • Collaborate with student-athletes, guidance counselors, and parents in the college application process.
  • Contact college coaches and introduce CRLS athletes per NCAA regulations.
  • Identify college scholarship opportunities for athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Previous successful playing and/or coaching experience.
  • Current CPR/AED & First Aid Certification.
  • Online Concussion Education Certification.
  • Online Implicit Bias Education Certification.
  • Fulfillment of MIAA Coaches Education Requirements and state requirements.
  • Completion of CORI Form and fingerprinting background check.

Pay

Payments are submitted to the payroll office twice per season: the first payment in the middle of the season and the second at the end. Contract amount is a flat rate of $2,081.00 for the term.

Schedule

Length of contract: July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
