Boys Basketball - Varsity Assistant Coach

About the role

The Scarsdale Public Schools are seeking a dynamic and team-oriented individual who exhibits a love of learning and a genuine interest in the social, emotional, mental, and physical health of student-athletes.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the organization and supervision of the basketball program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in basketball.
• Understands the benefits of an educational interscholastic athletic experience with a specific focus on player growth and development.
• Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Is accountable for all equipment and promotes a respect for equipment and school property from players.

Requirements

• Has the ability to assist in the organization and supervision of the basketball program.
• Has knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Scarsdale Public Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program.
• Knows existing system, state, and league regulations; implements the same consistently.
• Aids the head coach in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
• Reports To The Athletic Director and Varsity Head Coach.

Qualifications

• NYS certification in physical education or coaching license is required.

Skills

• Expert content knowledge and success in coaching basketball at the high school level.
• The ability to design experiences for players to interpret the game and to respond effectively is essential.
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
