About the role

Stantec is seeking a Botanist to join our team of environmental professionals. This position would preferably be based in our Kansas City (Overland Park), Kansas office.

Responsibilities

  • Variety of projects and clients keep the work interesting and fulfilling, while being dedicated to serving our clients and our communities.
  • Vegetation surveys
  • Habitat assessments and vegetation management plans
  • Wetland and stream delineation and assessments
  • Endangered resource record reviews
  • GPS data collection and mapping
  • Prepare and assist with written technical reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, applications, and maps for client and regulatory agency review
  • Organize and direct field teams for a wide variety of clients and project types
  • Willingness to travel and conduct field work for extended periods, including overnight travel, is expected for this position. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
  • Development of work plans, schedules and budgets for proposals
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Technical report writing including environmental review documents
  • ArcGIS-online mapping and analysis
  • Provide quality assurance/quality control of project deliverables

Requirements

  • Experience in leading and performing field sampling techniques and using scientific equipment such as hand-held GPS units, data entry devices (tablets, iPads, etc.), soil augers, quadrats, and other sampling equipment
  • Advanced technical writing skills sufficient to draft professional plans, technical reports, correspondence, permit applications, etc.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate project status to project manager and appropriate staff
  • The ability to work independently
  • Must be an advocate for the Company’s and client’s health and safety programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in natural resources or environmental science (botany, biology, ecology, environmental management, natural resources, wildlife biology) or related discipline; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience required; 10 or more years of experience preferred.
  • Prior NEPA experience a plus
  • Prior consulting work-related experience conducting field surveys, data analysis, technical report and permit application writing preferred
