The BOSS Elementary POD Instructor will deliver high-quality instruction in a blended learning environment, combining traditional classroom teaching with online learning methodologies to enhance student engagement and academic success.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging blended learning lessons incorporating digital resources and traditional teaching methods.
  • Monitor student progress through assessments and provide timely feedback to ensure mastery of subject matter.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum and instructional materials aligned with state standards and district goals.
  • Utilize data analytics to tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, fostering a personalized learning experience.
  • Support students in developing digital literacy skills and encourage responsible use of technology in their learning.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians to provide updates on progress and address concerns.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices and stay current with educational technologies.
  • Design and implement an instructional program aligned with the company’s educational philosophy and adopted course curriculum objectives.
  • Develop intentional and effective lesson plans that incorporate diverse teaching strategies and optimize student engagement.
  • Deliver subject matter using real-world applications and experiential learning to enhance learning opportunities.
  • Analyze student records to gain insights into individual abilities and needs, maintaining accurate and comprehensive student documentation.
  • Integrate a variety of learning modalities into lessons, employing differentiated instruction tailored to diverse student needs.
  • Conduct frequent diagnostic assessments to evaluate student learning and maintain accurate records.
  • Assess student strengths and weaknesses, providing targeted activities to address their needs and generating required progress reports.
  • Refer students with potential learning challenges to appropriate support services; assign and evaluate lessons and student presentations.
  • Organize class field trips as necessary and prepare students for state-mandated achievement assessments.
  • Stay informed about subject matter and educational theories, sharing insights to improve the school’s curriculum continuously.
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development, including revising course materials and selecting instructional resources.
  • Familiarize yourself with supplemental services that enhance student learning beyond regular classroom activities.
  • Establish a virtual classroom environment that fosters learning and is suited to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Build positive relationships with students, demonstrating patience and support to facilitate their growth.
  • Ensure the virtual classroom is organized, safe, and showcases student work appropriately.
  • Enforce relevant policies regarding student behavior and develop clear, reasonable rules for virtual classroom conduct in line with organizational guidelines.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with established educational guidelines and goals.
  • Design individual and group learning activities that cater to instructional objectives and student needs using appropriate technologies.
  • Prepare thoroughly for assigned classes and provide evidence of preparation upon request from supervisory personnel.
  • Collaborate with colleagues during designated curriculum planning meetings.
  • Integrate diagnostic information from each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) into lesson planning.
  • Take necessary precautions to safeguard supplies, equipment, and materials essential for effective instructional delivery.
  • Cultivate cooperative relationships and communicate effectively with parents/guardians as needed.
  • Maintain clear, consistent, and positive communication with parents using appropriate channels.
  • Collaborate with administration and fellow staff members, upholding confidentiality regarding student records.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities to promote a positive school culture and support students and staff as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification in the subject area and grade level.
  • Experience with blended learning models and instructional technology.
  • Strong understanding of early childhood and elementary school curriculum and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Previous experience in virtual teaching or online education environments is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with educational technologies, including learning management systems (LMS), video conferencing tools, and online assessment platforms.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with educational best practices and technology advancements.

Best Practices for Virtual Classroom Management

  • Set Clear Expectations: Begin with clearly defined rules and procedures for behavior and participation in the virtual classroom. Share these with students at the start of the course and revisit them regularly.
  • Engage Students Actively: Use interactive activities, discussions, and multimedia resources to keep students engaged. Incorporate polls, quizzes, and breakout rooms to encourage participation.
  • Establish a Routine: Create a consistent schedule for classes so students know what to expect, building a sense of stability and encouraging regular attendance.
  • Utilize Technology Effectively: Familiarize yourself with tools available on your learning management system (LMS), such as chat, screen sharing, and virtual whiteboards to enhance interaction.
  • Monitor Student Participation: Keep an eye on student engagement levels during lessons and use tools to identify who may need additional encouragement.

  • Encourage Open Dialogue: Invite parents to share their insights and feedback, creating an open line of communication where they feel comfortable reaching out.
  • Provide Resources: Share tools and guides parents can use to support their children’s learning at home, such as guides on using the LMS or educational websites.

Tools to Enhance Virtual Learning Experiences

  • Learning Management Systems (LMS): Platforms like Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology for organizing materials, assignments, and communication.
  • Interactive Whiteboards: Tools such as Jamboard or Miro to facilitate collaborative brainstorming and visual learning.
  • Video Conferencing Tools: Applications like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Webex for live interaction and virtual face-to-face meetings.
  • Assessment Tools: Platforms like Kahoot!, Quizizz, or Nearpod to create engaging quizzes and assessments.

Work Environment

This position will be performed in a POD location site setting, incorporating both in-person and online instruction. The BOSS High School POD Instructor will collaborate with a team of educators and work closely with students in a supportive and innovative learning environment.

Physical Demands

A BOSS HS POD Instructor working at a POD site daily faces a unique set of physical demands, combining traditional teaching responsibilities with the requirements of online instruction. This includes using computer-based technologies for extended periods, as well as standing, sitting, and walking.

FLSA Overtime Category: Job is exempt from the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
