About the role
We are looking for an experienced Bore / Equipment Technician based in the Austin area to join our field crew. If you know how to run ground installation equipment safely and efficiently—specifically walk-behind vibratory plows like the Ditch Witch VP30—and want steady, local work with a team that values your skill, we want to talk to you.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate walk-behind vibratory plows (VP30) and auxiliary equipment to install underground fiber, conduit, and cable.
- Assist directional drilling crews with pot-holing, locating existing utilities, rod loading, and pipe/conduit pulling.
- Set up job sites, expose existing utilities safely (hand digging/vacuum excavation), and ensure site restoration meets city and company standards.
- Maintain strict adherence to 811 utility marks, OSHA standards, PPE requirements, and safe digging protocols.
- Perform basic field maintenance, pre-trip inspections, and routine cleaning on assigned machinery and vehicles.
Requirements
- Proven track record operating underground utility equipment, specifically Ditch Witch VP30 vibratory plows or similar walk-behind drop/plow machinery.
- Experience in underground telecom, drop placement, or horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations.
- Deep understanding of 811 underground utility locating, potholing requirements, and soft-digging techniques.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (CDL Class A is a strong plus).
- Ability to work outdoors in Texas weather, lift up to 50+ lbs, and handle active physical field labor.
