Responsibilities
- Design and typeset book interiors in Adobe InDesign with a focus on Math and English curriculum (textbooks and workbooks), plus trade books.
- Build and maintain long-document structure — styles, master pages, baseline grids, running heads, and folios — for consistency across a full series.
- Typeset math and technical content accurately — equations, fractions, number lines, coordinate grids — plus tables, callouts, charts, and figures.
- Use data merge, GREP, and nested styles to produce repetitive content efficiently at scale: exercise sets, answer keys, and glossaries.
- Prepare print-ready files to production specs — preflight, bleeds and margins, and PDF/X export packaged to the printer’s requirements.
- Collaborate with editors and content developers to interpret manuscripts, implement revisions, and keep layouts consistent.
- Perform other design and production duties as needed to support the publishing team.
Qualifications
- Book interior design and typesetting experience — portfolio required, including book interiors (at least one textbook or workbook, not logos or marketing collateral).
- Experience typesetting technical curriculum strongly preferred — especially Math (equations and figures) and English.
- Advanced knowledge of InDesign for long documents: paragraph and character styles, master pages, GREP, baseline grids, data merge, running heads, and folios.
- Familiarity with a math equation workflow.
- Print-production knowledge: preflight, bleeds, color, and PDF/X export.
- Working proficiency in Illustrator for figures & diagrams; Photoshop for image preparation.
- Excellent attention to detail and typography, with a proven ability to deliver large projects on deadline.
