About the role
The Body Structures Engineer at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) supports the development of body structure or frame components and systems for new vehicles, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles. The role focuses on lightweight, high-strength steel and aluminum materials and involves collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop body structure or frame components and systems for new vehicles, including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles, with a focus on lightweight, high-strength steel and aluminum materials
- Conduct research and analysis to identify key design requirements and develop innovative solutions for electric vehicle platforms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration of body structure systems with other vehicle subsystems, including battery systems and electric powertrains
- Support and interface with manufacturing teams and design studios for vehicle development
- Create and manage a bill of materials with updated weights at each stage of the vehicle development
- Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers and team members
- Participate in benchmarking activities to study structural strategies of competitive OEMs
- Communicate and cooperate closely between North American affiliates and Korean headquarters
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
- Professional experience in BIW (body-in-white) design and development
- Experience meeting structural requirements concerning impact, NVH, and durability
- Experience meeting vehicle-level targets concerning cost, weight, timing, and functional performance
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., CATIA V6, NX, Solidworks, etc.), CATIA V5 experience highly preferred, but not required
- Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Adept in Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
- An ability to prepare reports/spreadsheets (when needed) to support project-related work
- Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
