About the Role

We are hiring Test Technicians to work at the Body and Chassis Dyno lab in Dearborn, MI. This position is ideal for individuals with some knowledge and experience in automotive, either professionally or as a hobby. We seek candidates with a passion for automotive and an enthusiasm to learn automotive testing from an industry leader.

Most testing involves durability simulation of subsystems and components. Responsibilities include mechanical preparation and instrumentation, test execution, data collection, and post-test removal of equipment and components. You will work with test lab instrumentation such as transducers, accelerometers, load cells, potentiometers, and other electrical equipment, as well as vehicle suspension components and subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical preparation and instrumentation of test components.
  • Test execution, data collection, and post-test removal of equipment.
  • Application and installation of transducers, accelerometers, load cells, potentiometers, and other electrical equipment.
  • Work with vehicle suspension components and subsystems.
  • Complete test-related duties as assigned during daily scheduling meetings.
  • Execute work independently with quality and efficiency.
  • Receive parts and prepare for first and subsequent runs according to test matrices.
  • Conduct test stand sample prep, fixturing, installation/removal, photographic documentation, test execution, data collection, and review.
  • Run standard tests and support test engineers for unique one-off testing in a lab environment.
  • Run multiple test facilities simultaneously.
  • Meet all workplace Health and Safety requirements and practices.
  • Provide feedback and identify opportunities to improve workplace conditions.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction and ensure proper data quality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Proficient electrical and mechanical knowledge and skills.
  • Good interpersonal, computer, oral, and written skills.
  • Fabrication experience, including general machine shop tools (drill press, band saw, grinders, welding, mill, etc.).
  • Print reading and test fixture layout/build.

Qualifications

  • Desired: Associate’s in Automotive Technology or a combination of 2 years’ experience and college.
  • Previous experience in a testing environment, including hydraulic experience, hydraulic/pneumatic system controller experience, automotive systems/sub-system familiarization, or MTS controller familiarization.
  • Three or more years’ experience in vehicle system and subsystem-related testing preferred.
  • Three or more years’ experience in vehicle or lab testing preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office and PC-based systems.
  • Knowledge of overall vehicle systems (chassis, body, seat, suspension preferred).
  • Engine and transmission knowledge is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting: Up to 50 lbs (e.g., vehicle parts such as seats, doors, suspension parts), 35% of the time.
  • Climbing: Stairs, 15% of the time.
  • Special clothing/equipment: Safety glasses, slip-resistant hardened-toe shoes, gloves, long pants, short sleeves, 100% of the time.
  • Unusual physical requirements: Sitting (50%), standing (50%), bending (25%), stooping (25%).
  • High noise level: Vibration tables, test cell noise, 30% of the time.
  • Work environment: Inside 100% of the time, with exposure to hot and cold test chambers 30% of the time.
  • Hazardous conditions: Rotating equipment, engines, hot exhaust, trip hazards, 100% of the time.

Equipment and Tools

  • Office equipment: Computers, analyzers, 70% of the time.
  • Vehicles: Forklifts, 15% of the time.
  • Tools: Basic hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, wrenches, ratchets, sockets, etc.), 40% of the time.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, day shift with occasional overtime.
  • May need to flex time to cover weekend testing.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are critical.

Other Essential Functions

  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management, and co-workers.
  • Must have clear, concise, and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating professionally.
  • Dependable personal transportation to the work site is required.

Pay

$20 - $30 per hour.
