Qualifications

  • Active Colorado Department of Education (CDE) licensure as a Specialized Service Professional (SSP), Special Education Teacher, or a related specialist, with a strong background in behavioral interventions.
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) endorsement or actively seeking BCBA endorsement is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and a comprehensive understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with disabilities, including but not limited to Autism, Behavior Disorders, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of Special Education regulations, including concepts such as Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), and the development of Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to effectively coordinate and manage multiple teams across various school districts.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to collaborate effectively with professional staff, parents, students, and outside agencies, with the proven ability to train others in evidence-based behavior management techniques.

Performance Responsibilities And Duties

  • Program Development and Coordination: Collect and analyze data from school districts to determine program and intervention needs. Communicate the established criteria for access to support and the clear referral process to relevant teams. Review, monitor, triage, and respond to referrals for behavioral support. Coordinate and manage the delivery of behavioral support programs across multiple school districts.
  • Behavioral Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct thorough Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and other comprehensive behavioral evaluations for students requiring intensive support, as part of the referral and IEP process.
  • Intervention Planning and Implementation: Develop, monitor, and oversee the implementation of individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), ensuring they align with Special Education regulations (FAPE, LRE). This includes observation, development of data sheets, and program maintenance follow-up.
  • Collaborate with and model intensive behavioral intervention services for teachers and other SSP's for students with the most significant behavioral needs.
  • Professional Development and Coaching: Deliver high-quality professional development and individualized coaching to teachers, paraprofessionals, and school teams on basic evidence-based methodology and student-specific behavioral strategies. The Behavior Specialist provides Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training to districts.
  • Team Collaboration and Consultation: Actively participate in and guide team meetings regarding student behavioral concerns, including initial tiered referrals, collaborating closely with SPED leads, School IEP Teams, and other specialized teams. Serve as an expert resource and consultant to administrators, educators, and parents regarding current best practices for the management of appropriate behaviors.
  • Compliance and Ethics: Maintain a continuous commitment to upholding ethical and professional standards of conduct, current best practices, and ensuring all services and documentation comply with CDE regulations and district/BOCES guidelines.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of all behavioral assessments (FBAs), intervention plans (BIPs), coaching sessions, and professional development activities in accordance with district/BOCES and state guidelines.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Special Education/Executive Director.

$65-$75K, Dependent on experience.
