Board Substitute - Instructional Assistant - Exceptional Education

About the role
The Board Substitute Instructional Assistant provides classroom instruction and maintains a productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role ensures continuity of instruction, supports student learning, and upholds school policies and expectations across K-12 grade levels.
Responsibilities
- Deliver instructional lessons and activities according to the regular teacher's lesson plans.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
- Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school and district policies.
- Take accurate attendance and complete required classroom documentation.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the developmental, academic, and social needs of students.
- Provide clear instructions and support to students during class activities and assignments.
- Communicate effectively with school staff regarding student progress, concerns, or incidents.
- Supervise students during instructional time, transitions, and assigned duties (e.g., lunch, recess, hallway).
- Follow emergency procedures and school safety protocols as required.
- Leave detailed notes for the regular teacher regarding lesson completion, student behavior, and any issues encountered.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic instructional and classroom management skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a variety of classroom settings and grade levels.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Professional demeanor and commitment to student safety and confidentiality.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Pay
Minimum salary: $20.49 per hour.
Selected candidate must work 21 consecutive instructional days in the same class to be paid the Board Substitute rate.
