Board Substitute Exceptional Education Instructional Assistant (SIS) - 2026-27
About the role
The Instructional Assistant supports the classroom teacher by providing essential assistance with academic subjects, classroom duties, and classroom management. The position requires the protection of sensitive and confidential information and demands independent judgment.
Responsibilities
- Aids students with academic subjects, assisting one-on-one, in small groups, or whole classes based on individual qualifications.
- Documents student progress and assists teachers with classroom duties such as correcting work, recording grades, planning work, and administering tests.
- Assists with classroom management and behavior modification.
- Supports field trips, community-based instruction, and other activities, including assisting with toileting students, changing diapers, and handling seizures and other physical complications.
- Assists with mobility needs, such as lifting and positioning students, operating adaptive equipment, and performing physical therapeutic training.
- Collects and reports data on student performance and progress.
- Aids in the implementation of behavior management plans and assists with student supervision during lunch, recess, and in the absence of teachers.
- Assists with breakfast, lunch, and snack services, including clean-up.
- May assist with student medical and personal hygiene needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Sixty semester hours of college credit or passing scores on the ParaPro Assessment preferred.
- Paraprofessional Autism Certification required within 60 days of hire.
Qualifications
