Position Summary The Bluco Operator fabricates and assembles metal components using a Bluco modular fixturing table. This position interprets blueprints, determines the proper assembly sequence, positions and secures components, and performs tack and finish welding using GMAW/MIG and GTAW/TIG processes. The Bluco Operator inspects completed work to ensure assemblies meet customer specifications and Morton Industries’ safety, quality, and production standards. Essential Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Review production schedules, expedite lists, work orders, blueprints, and process documentation to determine job requirements and priorities.Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, dimensions, and specifications to determine assembly methods and sequence of operations.Set up Bluco modular fixturing tables for small-lot and custom assembly work.Position, align, clamp, and secure components according to blueprint specifications.Verify component dimensions and condition before assembly using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment.Lay out reference lines, hole locations, and other required markings on workpieces.Tack and finish weld metal components using GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG, brazing, or other approved joining processes.Adjust and straighten components using approved heating, clamping, or restraining methods.Operate grinders and other hand and power tools required to prepare, assemble, and finish components.Inspect work throughout the fabrication process to confirm dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and conformance to specifications.Identify and communicate material, quality, equipment, or blueprint concerns to the appropriate team member or leader.Complete required production, quality, and material documentation accurately and on time.Route completed assemblies to the appropriate downstream operation or shipment area.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.Follow all company safety requirements, work instructions, and quality procedures.Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred.Welding education, certification, or related fabrication experience preferred.Experience with Bluco or other modular fixturing systems preferred; comparable layout-table experience may be considered.Working knowledge of GMAW/MIG welding required; GTAW/TIG experience preferred.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, work instructions, and dimensional specifications.Ability to use tape measures, squares, calipers, gauges, and other inspection equipment accurately.Basic math and layout skills, including working with fractions and decimals.Ability to safely operate welding equipment, grinders, and other hand and power tools.Ability to complete a welding or skills assessment when required.Ability to work independently while contributing to team production goals.Ability to communicate clearly and address quality or production concerns promptly. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position works in a manufacturing environment and regularly involves exposure to moving mechanical equipment, welding light, sparks, heat, dirty or oily conditions, and elevated noise levels. The employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and industrial chemicals. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as directed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to: Stand and walk for extended periods.Use hands and fingers to handle, position, or operate tools and materials.Reach with hands and arms.Communicate and hear in a manufacturing environment.Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or work in other positions required to complete an assembly.Regularly lift or move materials weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.Use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
