Blood Gas Technician, Per-Diem, Rotating Shifts

Job Description

The Blood Gas Technician at Northwestern Medicine reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

• Performs exacting laboratory measurements on whole blood supernatants and other fluids.
• Performs preventative maintenance, calibrations, and repairs on various lab equipment.
• Identifies, corrects, and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting.
• Acquires specialized knowledge of Respiratory Therapy modalities and cardiopulmonary physiology essential for assessing the compatibility of laboratory data to the patient's condition.
• Compiles daily statistics as directed.
• Communicates with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other clinical personnel to achieve optimal patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or two years of college training in a health-related science.
• Laboratory experience.
