Blood Component Manufacturing Technician

About the Role

In this role, you will manufacture blood products and samples, processing units received from donors into transfusable components such as red cells, platelets, and plasma. As a Red Cross team member, you’ll prioritize teamwork, reliability, and compassionate interactions with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Meet quality and quantity production goals while maintaining accurate documentation.
• Practice good inventory management throughout manufacturing and distribution.
• Perform data entry and operate computer programs for component production, labeling, storage, and sample tube management.
• Analyze visual inspections and departmental information to make timely decisions.
• Perform complex manufacturing tasks, including pooled product manufacturing, freeze/wash/deglycerolizing of blood products, and pathogen reduction.
• Communicate effectively with internal customers, vendors, and volunteers.
• Demonstrate flexibility to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays, to meet hospital needs.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years of related experience in a regulatory, laboratory, or manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including the use of various programs and laboratory equipment.
• Strong attention to detail, accurate documentation, and sound decision-making abilities.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

• Requires standing, stretching, stooping, and bending for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, pull, push, and move objects up to 50 pounds.
• May work in walk-in refrigerators/freezers for extended periods.
• May be required to wear protective clothing such as lab coats, gloves, and face shields.

Pay

$18.50 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour shift differential for all hours worked on the weekend.

Schedule

• Regular schedule: Sunday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM.
• Training schedule: First 4 weeks, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (full attendance is mandatory).
