Blood Component Manufacturing Technician

About the Role

As a Blood Component Manufacturing Technician, you will manufacture blood products and samples by processing donated blood units. This includes scanning units, separating them into transfusable components (red cells, platelets, plasma), and performing leukoreduction. You’ll contribute to a mission-driven environment where teamwork, care, and compassion are paramount.

Responsibilities

• Meet quality and quantity production goals while prioritizing workload and maintaining accurate documentation.
• Practice good inventory management throughout manufacturing and distribution.
• Perform data entry and operate computer programs for component production, labeling, storage, and sample tube management.
• Analyze visual inspections and departmental information to make timely decisions.
• Execute complex manufacturing tasks such as pooled product manufacturing, freezing, washing, deglycerolizing blood products, and pathogen reduction.
• Communicate effectively with internal customers, vendors, and volunteers.
• Demonstrate flexibility to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays, to meet hospital needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 years of related experience in a regulatory, laboratory, or manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including the use of various programs and laboratory equipment.
• Strong attention to detail, accurate documentation, and sound decision-making abilities.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

• Requires standing, stretching, stooping, and bending for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, pull, push, and move objects up to 50 pounds.
• May work in walk-in refrigerators/freezers for extended periods.
• May require wearing protective clothing such as lab coats, gloves, and face shields.

Pay

$19.50/hour

Schedule

• Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
• Paid training: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for approximately 4 weeks (no time off permitted during training).
