About the role

Emory Medical Laboratory seeks a Medical Lab Scientist II / Medical Technologist II with Blood Bank/Transfusion Service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs various laboratory tests and procedures while adhering to standard operating procedures on patient specimens.
  • Aids in the diagnosis, study, and treatment of diseases through the assistance of laboratory tests and procedures.
  • May implement new equipment and procedures, evaluate test results, and refer abnormal or unexpected results to appropriate individuals.
  • Serves on the laboratory's safety committee, writes and maintains safety and infection control policies and procedures, and ensures correct Safety Data Sheets are maintained.
  • Teaches medical technology theory and techniques, provides guidance to lower-level technologists, develops teaching plans, and prepares written examinations.
  • Performs venipuncture or capillary puncture to obtain blood specimens.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
  • Two years of experience required.
  • Certified by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), MT (HHS or HEW), MT (AAB), generalist or categorical if applicable.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include blood bank specific experience.
  • Other bachelor's degrees may be accepted if they meet the necessary science and math coursework requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree may be waived for medical technologists who were ASCP certified prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP and were also HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.

Skills

  • Adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate test results and make referrals.
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control policies.
  • Teaching and mentoring skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform lifting, carrying, standing, walking, and sitting tasks.

Pay

$15/hr for weekend shifts.

Schedule

  • 5:30am - 4pm, rotating weekends and holidays
  • 6am - 4:30pm, rotating weekends & holidays
  • 7am - 5:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays
  • 8am - 6:30pm, rotating weekends & holidays
  • 2:30pm - 1:00am, rotating weekends & holidays
  • 6pm - 6:30am, Weekends, rotating holidays
  • 8pm - 6:30am, rotating weekends and holidays
