About the role

The Blending Lead will lead a team of blending technicians in a hands-on capacity, overseeing day-to-day duties and tasks of the blending department. This role involves setting up and operating equipment, selecting materials for compounding operations, and maintaining blend inventory to ensure consistent material supply to extruders.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure blending technicians follow standards and escalate issues to supervisor/manager as necessary
  • Oversee and lead a group of blending technicians using safe working practices and proper protective equipment
  • Set up the mixer system to produce compound needed for production
  • Check weigh scales periodically for zero reading, adjust scales, and zero scales with empty bucket or box
  • Visually recognize all ingredients and identify each per bag
  • Weigh each ingredient according to the required formulation and understand the formulation in use
  • Add ingredients in the proper order to maintain batch consistency based on accumulating weights
  • Handle material for weighing and supply the blender with weighed materials
  • Operate a forklift in tight areas to supply materials to the weigh station
  • Select and place materials for compound mixing
  • Connect the mixer to the proper conveying system to generate input and pump to the correct silo
  • Accurately weigh each material and add to the compounder in the proper order
  • Alert the foreman when weighing errors are discovered
  • Stock raw materials for mixing operations per operating policy
  • Perform routine daily inspections of the mixer system and write work orders for repairs
  • Maintain blend levels in silos as instructed, including climbing silos to take measurements
  • Climb and work on top of railcars, keeping all hose caps installed to prevent contamination
  • Receive raw materials as directed by operating policy
  • Complete all required paperwork
  • Assist maintenance personnel in repairing blending equipment upon request
  • Keep the work area neat and clean at all times

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
