Job Summary

Season/hours: July through November, approximately 5-10 hours a week. Hours may vary between 8 and 10 hours/week, Monday through Friday. Scheduling is flexible.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct biological surveys in minimally managed landscapes on the UM-Dearborn campus, focusing on describing current conditions that support birdlife.
  • Use information gathered through these assessments to create a Habitat Management Guide that includes recommendations for managing the habitats mentioned above, with a focus on improving resources for native birds.
  • Research and help install a cost-effective bird collision deterrent film onto the EIC building windows.

Required Qualifications

  • Current UM-Dearborn student or very recent graduate
  • Background coursework in field biology and/or field ecology
  • Appropriate level of familiarity with the techniques of field observation and identification of local flora and native birdlife
  • Basic knowledge of ecological processes and concepts
  • Interest in birds and bird conservation
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable doing field work
  • Organized and self-directed
  • Able to work independently

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiar with EIC mission and goals
  • Formally trained using a diversity of ArcGIS software programs and apps
  • Able to receive and integrate feedback from staff and visitors into map design and goals
  • Able to work independently and solve technical problems
