Biostatistics - Assistant Professor, Tenure Track or Clinician-Educator

About the Role

The Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics (DBEI) at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of biostatistics research.

Tenure track applicants will focus primarily on the development of innovative leading-edge statistical methodology, with secondary emphasis on collaborative research projects within the Perelman School of Medicine. An established track record in methodology development is required, along with the ability to establish oneself as a research leader in their area of specialization.

Clinician-Educator track applicants who have outstanding productivity in collaborative research, as well as some methodological research, are especially encouraged to apply. There is a rich mix of ongoing biomedical research programs in the Perelman School of Medicine to provide motivation and opportunities for the development of novel statistical methods on wide-ranging domains of biomedical, clinical, and translational science.

The Division of Biostatistics includes over 30 full-time faculty with diverse expertise spanning numerous methodological and biomedical areas. The placement of Biostatistics in the Perelman School of Medicine, alongside world-class medical, biological, and population scientists, as part of an integrated campus including the Wharton School of Business, School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Engineering and Applied Science, as well as other premier biomedical research institutions such as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, provides the ideal setting for cross-disciplinary collaboration and impactful quantitative research.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative statistical methodology (tenure track) or contribute to collaborative research with some methodological research (clinician-educator track).
• Participate in biostatistics PhD and MS training programs, as well as teach biostatistics courses in epidemiology, health policy, and other biomedical programs.
• Mentor students and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching.
• Serve as a statistical leader for collaborative research studies.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biostatistics or a related field.
• Established track record in statistical methodology development (tenure track) or outstanding productivity in collaborative research (clinician-educator track).
• Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience and/or interest in cancer clinical trials, pediatric research, the interface between biostatistics and artificial intelligence, and causal inference.
