Biostatistician/Bioinformatician - James/Guthridge Lab

About the role

The James/Guthridge Lab is a translational immunology laboratory focused on understanding the pathogenesis, prediction, prevention, and precision treatment of immune-mediated diseases. We work with large, complex experimental datasets paired with detailed clinical data to improve disease understanding and treatments.

Responsibilities

• Develop data analysis plans, including power calculations, and contribute statistical expertise to federal grant applications.
• Perform statistical or bioinformatic analyses and assist with data visualization.
• Evaluate data collection methods to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, accuracy, reliability, and usability.
• Report results of data analyses through graphs, charts, and tables.
• Convey analysis results to non-statistical audiences.
• Analyze and interpret data, preparing conclusions and identifying relationships, trends, and influencing factors.
• Assist scientists in designing experiments to facilitate correct data analysis.
• Query databases, manage datasets, and upload curated datasets to federal sites such as ImmPORT, ARK, Geo, and others.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent field and one (1) year of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or MIS and three (3) years of relevant experience.
• Ability to perform data analysis using appropriate software programs and/or program in R.
• Excellent organizational and clear communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Strong attention to detail and high level of dependability.

Preferred Qualifications

• MPH or advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Biological Data Science, or Bioinformatics.
• Five (5) or more years of experience as a consulting biostatistician or bioinformatician.
• Experience in human immune responses in health and disease, clinical trials, or research related to Alzheimer’s disease and/or cancer.
• Exposure to analysis of high-content proteomics and multi-omic dataset analyses and integration.
• Experience helping write (or writing) data analysis components of NIH grant applications.
• Experience assembling data packages and uploading to common federal data-sharing sites.
