About the Role

Looking for a new opportunity to apply your fingerprint (latent print or tenprint), facial, or iris examination experience in a fast-paced environment supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) Warfighter? This position offers the chance to expand your examination skills with training in emerging biometric modalities, including facial and iris identification. Working within a unique 100% digital environment, Biometric Examiners operate both independently and as a team to process biometric examination requests and routine casework.

The role supports DoD customers by building and searching biometric files through DoD ABIS, performing complex examinations on fragmented friction ridge impressions, and handling varying quality facial and iris images. Examiners transform traditional non-digital comparison skills into a digital workflow while receiving training in facial and iris identifications. Additionally, they may perform case reception and administrative tasks to support Biometric Technician operations.

This position is on the front lines, performing biometric examinations, comparisons, and identifications to serve the DoD Warfighter and protect the United States.

Responsibilities

• Prepare biometric files (fingerprints, palm prints, facial images, and/or iris images) for entry into DoD ABIS using digital imaging techniques to enhance and maintain image integrity.
• Monitor queue applications to resolve DoD ABIS "yellow resolve" transactions.
• Manually compare (on-screen) available biometrics with candidate biometrics retrieved from DoD ABIS to eliminate individuals or effect positive identifications.
• Verify fingerprints to validate correct sequence and orientation.
• Perform manual biometric comparisons for identity deconfliction at the request of BOD customers.
• Utilize a case management/database portal system to document case notes, metrics, and prepare reports for submitting customers.
• Maintain digital Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
• Provide case reception and administrative support to the ESS Biometric Technician operation as necessary.

Requirements

• Education: Doctorate, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of related work experience OR Associate degree and 8 years of related work experience OR High School diploma and 10 years of related work experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance and FBI CJIS campus access clearance.
• Must successfully pass proficiency testing prior to and periodically during employment.
• Willingness to work shifts (10-12 hours) on a 24/7, 365-day schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Willingness to relocate or commute to Clarksburg, WV.
• Must complete a pre-employment comparison assessment test.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Desired Qualifications

• Current certification by the International Association for Identification (IAI) as a Certified Tenprint Examiner.
• Prior tenprint, facial, or iris examination experience.
• Digital imaging processing tool experience (Adobe Photoshop preferred).
• AFIS/ABIS system experience.

Schedule

• Must be willing to work 10-12 hour shifts on a 24/7, 365-day schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Option to work either 10 or 12-hour days indefinitely, depending on coverage requirements.
• Shift times are flexible and determined by management based on operational needs:
  • Day: 5a-5p, 5a-3p, or 7a-5p
  • Afternoon: 3p-3a
  • Evening: 5p-5a, 5p-3a, or 7p-5a
• Primarily set shifts (no rotation).
• Commuter option: May exercise a condensed work schedule after the training period concludes.
