Biomedical Technician II
About the role
The Biomedical Engineering department at The Children’s of Alabama provides safety and support for patients and clinical staff through medical equipment management. The department is responsible for the safety of the entire medical equipment inventory, which includes almost 20,000 devices ranging from blood pressure machines to x-ray systems.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the performance of medical equipment, preventive maintenance, repair, calibration, and equipment management.
- Responsible for customer relations in reference to patients, visitors, hospital staff, physicians, and fellow Biomed technicians.
- Proactively takes a lead role in mentoring new technicians and students.
Requirements
- Knowledge of various biomedical equipment including operation and servicing of this equipment.
- Knowledge of the use of specialized test equipment, various hand/power tools and equipment service documentation.
- The ability to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems as well as the ability to locate parts necessary for repairs.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience and one of the following requirements listed below:
- - Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician Certificate (CBET), Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES), or Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES)
- - Bachelor's Degree in Health Related Science
- - Documented Equipment Service Training in specialized equipment related to the function of the TCHS as determined by the Director of Biomedical Engineering
Skills
Knowledge of various biomedical equipment including operation and servicing of this equipment. Knowledge of the use of specialized test equipment, various hand/power tools and equipment service documentation. The ability to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems as well as the ability to locate parts necessary for repairs. Proactive mentoring skills.

Full-time on the Day Shift, Monday-Friday, 7:00am- 3:30pm.
