About the role

Provides advanced levels of equipment and/or departmental service and support. Performs preventive maintenance, quality assurance inspections, installation, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance on biomedical, clinical data/network systems, and related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, installs, inspects, troubleshoots, and calibrates equipment.
  • Completes the preventive maintenance (PM) workload to achieve a consistently high level of PM compliance over time.
  • Reviews, modifies, develops, and implements written preventive maintenance manuals and quality assurance testing procedures for medical equipment.
  • Reviews incident reports related to equipment malfunction or misuse and takes appropriate actions to ensure patient safety.
  • Leads new equipment evaluations, acquisitions, and installations.
  • Obtains quotes through current requisition processes and works with technical specifications related to bids and capital purchases.
  • Exercises proper judgment in evaluating the extent/source of repairs on malfunctioning equipment and determines the course of action needed to cost-effectively maximize equipment uptime.
  • Seeks out best value products and labor and parts sources in order to minimize the total cost of service to the organization.
  • Provides in-service training to other clinical engineering service technicians.
  • Oversees the work of external contractors/vendors engaged in providing services for specialized equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 4 years progressive experience performing electronic and/or electromechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on both general and specialized biomedical equipment.
  • Ability to respond to diagnostic ultrasound, portable fluoroscopy, and dye injector service calls.
  • Ability to respond to service calls in the operating rooms.
  • Ability to communicate and function independently in a customer-focused service environment and to use computer software-based work order tracking systems to document repair and maintenance services.
  • Proficiency in performing database management functions with regard to maintaining accurate device control records.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art electronic test equipment and simulators.
  • Competence and independence in potential crisis situations while appropriately alerting management.
  • Flexibility in accommodating customer needs.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and to be self motivated and self disciplined.
  • Effectively deals with multiple and changing priorities.
  • Must be able to visit multiple business locations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use.
  • Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
