Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) III
About the role
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) – Level III is responsible for performing inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of medical and non-medical support equipment.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with Federal, State, and/or applicable regulatory requirements; implement quality control standards and maintain budget and vendor relationships.
- Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect complex medical equipment, instrumentation, and systems.
- Assign routine repairs, inspections, and installations to subordinates and observe their performance.
- Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and systems, and monitor completion of preventive maintenance activities performed by outside vendors (when applicable).
- Review outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.
- Perform complex technical inspections of new, used or reconditioned military medical equipment.
- Recommend new equipment and testing procedures.
- Follow original equipment manufacturer guidance, AFI, regulations and unit direction.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in medical devices, performing necessary repairs or coordinating with vendors for service when required.
- Maintain detailed service records, documenting repairs, maintenance actions, and performance evaluations.
- Aid in the installation and configuration of new biomedical equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
- Determine associated support items of equipment in order to perform scheduled services and maintenance repairs and calibration; supply support and provisioning requirements; and training requirements.
- Prepare necessary support documentation and purchase requisitions of parts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree is desired but may not be required if the minimum field experience requirement is met.
- Must have graduated from the DoD Biomedical Maintenance Course or an accredited civilian Biomedical Maintenance Course.
- Graduated from the Planmeca digital dental course no later than 12 months after start.
- Minimum 10 years of field experience (minimum of four years as a level II BMET) in managing: initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, life cycle management, repair of medical equipment, equipment acquisition, and safety within OEM guidance and local/state/federal regulations.
- Advanced degree in a related field, preferred.
- Must provide documentation of eligibility to legally work in the United States without an employer sponsored visa.
- Must be able to pass client background screening for security clearance.
- Candidates must possess, or be able to obtain prior to start date, acceptable identification for federal facility access, such as a REAL ID-compliant driver's license/ID, U.S. passport, or other approved federal identification document.
- ID must remain valid for the duration of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
