About the role

The Biomedical Equipment Technician position involves maintaining, modifying, and calibrating various medical and laboratory equipment used in surgical and pre- and postoperative procedures. Key responsibilities include inspecting and repairing equipment, setting up electronic monitoring equipment, and performing laboratory tests as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and maintains respiratory, anesthesia, and laboratory equipment.
  • Disassembles and reassembles equipment, replacing worn or defective parts.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots malfunctions of monitoring, anesthesia, or surgical equipment during surgeries.
  • Installs substitute equipment if necessary.
  • Performs laboratory tests as requested.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience as a medical or laboratory technician involving the operation and maintenance of cardiopulmonary, respiratory, electronic, and electromechanical monitoring equipment.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation.
  • Physical Class 3 - Moderate requirements, including standing, bending, stooping, and occasional/lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Additional experience in excess of the Requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants must receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the evaluation of experience to be added to the list.

Vacancy Information

Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly. Applicants who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies in the Department of Health Services as they occur.

Special Information

  • Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Applications can be completed on computers at public libraries throughout Los Angeles County.
