Biomedical Equipment Tech I

About the role

The Biomedical Equipment Technician I (BMET I) under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Engineering, is responsible for the installation and inspection of a wide range of medical equipment and medical equipment networks. This role requires a fundamental understanding of electronics, medical technology, medical networks, and troubleshooting practices.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control standards, and Joint Commission and regulatory requirements.
• Exhibit problem-solving skills including testing, basic troubleshooting techniques, and issue resolution.
• Possess the ability to follow manufacturer's procedures for preventive maintenance inspection, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and operation verification procedures on PCs, peripherals, medical networks, and general medical equipment.
• Use required hand tools, PC troubleshooting commands, and work with and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery and vendor documentation.
• Develop biomedical understanding through ongoing work experience, training, and education.
• Assume 24-hour on-call repair responsibilities.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repair, and inspection activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Participate in on-the-job training and continuing education programs to develop technical skills.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and changes in medical equipment regulations.

Requirements

• Minimum: Associate’s degree in science or technology (BMET/EET) or military trained (BMET) Biomedical Equipment Technician.
• Experience: Internship or hands-on training in a hospital or healthcare environment. 0-2 years of experience performing corrective and preventive maintenance on medical equipment in a medical center.

Qualifications

• Significant working knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology with emphasis in clinical application and troubleshooting.
• Pursuing AAMI Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification.

Skills

• Fundamental understanding of electronics, medical technology, medical networks, and troubleshooting practices.
• Comprehensive understanding and ability to communicate the operation of devices supported.
