Responsibilities
- Assist in lifecycle management of medical systems such as imaging, lab analyzers, life support, dialysis, and monitoring.
- Complete routine and complex assignments involving installation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of medical devices and systems.
- Coordinate with other facility support departments like FMS, OIT, SPS, and EMS for physical and network support.
- Perform incoming inspections, regular and unscheduled maintenance, and planning for end-of-life replacement in collaboration with clinical services.
- Use common test equipment such as electrical safety analyzers, oscilloscopes, patient simulators, pulse generators, network analyzers, and multimeters for testing and troubleshooting.
- Adhere to MDIA Guidelines for both procurement and system implementation phases.
- Load operating system and clinical application software as needed under guidance.
- Document all work performed in CMMS in compliance with regulatory body requirements, HTM guidelines, and organizational policies.
- Investigate, remediate, and document recalls and safety alerts within established timelines.
- Remain updated on medical technology advancements, network protocols, and medical device security.
- Provide training and education to medical technology end users and clinical staff.
- Assist with project management for medical device installations or upgrades.
- Support administrative duties as assigned.
- Serve as an advocate for Biomedical/Clinical Engineering department in interactions with others.
Qualifications
- Completion of an associate’s degree in biomedical technology or biomedical engineering, or a combination of education and experience as outlined in the qualification standards.
- Experience or education equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) demonstrating knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics related to the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of physics, anatomy, physiology, electronics, networking concepts, and standard test equipment.
- Ability to document services provided in a CMMS and interpret technical data.
- Skills in troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance, and providing technical training.
- Knowledge of NFPA, FDA, TJC, AAMI standards for medical equipment safety.
- Proficiency in using test and calibration equipment, interpreting technical data, and applying networking principles.
- Ability to perform advanced testing, manage projects, and maintain medical computers and software.
- Ability to manage projects involving medical equipment and clinical systems.
