About the role

The Biomedical Engineer I supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of medical devices and healthcare technology across Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's (MSK) growing network of clinical locations. This role combines hands-on technical support, project coordination, vendor collaboration, and healthcare technology management to ensure medical equipment remains safe, compliant, and operational.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the maintenance, preventive maintenance, calibration, testing, installation, and lifecycle management of medical devices and related systems used throughout MSK's network for clinical use.
  • Supports medical device lifecycle management activities and assists fellow engineers in equipment upgrades, recalls, replacements, and inventory tracking and asset management utilization.
  • Assists with the evaluation and testing of medical technologies prior to purchase and implementation.
  • Collaborates with vendors, service providers, and clinical departments to support equipment maintenance and operational readiness.
  • Coordinates project management activities related to equipment installations, upgrades, replacement initiatives, and departmental projects.
  • Supports information technology and cybersecurity best practices related to connected medical devices and healthcare technology systems.
  • Communicates equipment-related issues, safety concerns, and operational recommendations to leadership and clinical partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in biomedical engineering, clinical engineering, healthcare technology management, medical device support, or a related technical field.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital electronics.
  • Experience using diagnostic and testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, and related tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical device maintenance, calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting practices preferred.
  • Experience supporting healthcare technology, medical equipment, or clinical systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of information technology systems and medical device cybersecurity concepts preferred.

Additional Information

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Location: New York City, Long Island, and/or New Jersey
MSK sites
Travel: Regular travel throughout the MSK network, including Manhattan, Long Island, and/or New Jersey locations
Reporting To: Biomed/Clinical Engineering Leadership
