About the role
The Biomedical Engineer position is located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. This full-time position requires live-in the DMV area.
Job Responsibilities
- Apply advanced engineering practices and principles to complex multi-disciplinary patient care through digital design, computer manufacturing techniques, CPU control boards and wiring.
- Maintain competency by reviewing literature, attending conferences, and through individual contact with similar facilities.
- Oversee simulation diagnostic troubleshooting and repair for non-functioning training units and assist with medical simulation training at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
- Works under the general supervision of the department to set objectives, prioritize projects, and manage deadlines.
- Ensure efficient and productive technical training equipment replacement within the Simulation Center.
- Develop and update SOPs, track troubleshooting logs, and report simulator functionality to the Medical Director.
- Assist with resolving technical issues with simulation training equipment and provide advice on the application and utilization of training simulators.
- Write monthly reports on budget issues concerning simulation and biomedical equipment repairs.
- Participate in research and viability of new simulation technology and attend national conferences to arrange demonstrations.
- Provide informational tours for internal/external persons interested in the Center's usage of training equipment and training activities.
- Work with MTF personnel, vendors, and visitors to promote the Simulation Center.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering.
- Five (5) years’ experience in working with, repairing, and troubleshooting biomedical equipment.
- Three (3) or more years’ experience in working with, repairing, and troubleshooting medical simulators (Laerdal Medical, VirtaMED, CAE Healthcare, Mimic Technologies, Simbionix).
- English language proficiency.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience with at least one of the following systems: Laerdal Medical, VirtaMED, CAE Healthcare, Mimic Technologies, Simbionix.
Skills
- Advanced engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and simulation technology.
- Ability to learn and use simulation software.
- Computer literacy and ability to learn new software easily.
- Practical knowledge of audio-visual systems.
- Ability to track and document simulation equipment usage and maintenance.
- Multi-tasking and working in an environment with constant interruptions and reorganization.
