About the role
HMMA is a public charter high school within the Helix Community Schools network, located in downtown Baton Rouge. The school is transitioning into a maritime-focused academy that merges rigorous academics with hands-on, real-world learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality, standard-aligned Biology instruction.
- Design lessons that promote scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and real-world application of biological concepts.
- Leverage technology tools and resources to enhance instruction and student learning.
- Use assessment data to differentiate instruction and support student progress.
- Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary and innovative learning experiences.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Science Education, or a related field (required)
- Valid Louisiana teaching certification in Biology or eligibility to obtain one (required)
- Experience teaching high school science preferred
- Strong knowledge of science content and inquiry-based instructional strategies (preferred)
- Commitment to educational equity and high expectations for all students
- Comfort with integrating technology into instruction and a willingness to grow professionally in this area (preferred)
