About the role

Serves as a Biologist with the primary responsibility of implementing the water quality program of collecting, analyzing, compiling, interpreting, and dissemination of data and providing technical advice on matters related to water quality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare in-house products such as scopes of work and water quality reports;
  • Reviews and evaluate design documents and plans in regard to water quality impacts;
  • Cook up and coordinate with other water resources agencies in implementing the water quality program;
  • Participate actively in the District's water quality program, which is an integral part of the District's overall water management program;
  • Receive and reconcile all water quality samples;
  • Perform all technical duties related to data collection and analysis including numerical computer modeling of water quality parameters associated with District water resources functions;
  • Evaluate physical, chemical, and biological data determining the adequacy of the data to fully describe the ecosystem and recommend additional field investigations when necessary;
  • Maintain working knowledge of environmental policies regarding the Corps' role in protection, improvement, and sustainment of our national water resources.

Requirements

Basic Education Requirement, Biologist - 0401 Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, you must have:

  • A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using biological practices, principles and techniques sufficient to assist in the recommendations of planning and implementing environmental, recreational and natural resource management activities at a water resources project. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05);
  • B. Education: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
  • C. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position.

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, you must have:

  • A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using biological practices, principles and techniques sufficient to assist in the recommendations of planning and implementing environmental, recreational and natural resource management activities at a water resources project; experience in natural resource management and related laws, policies and regulations as it pertains to biodiversity, threatened and endangered species, wetland protection, cultural resources and agricultural lease program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07);
  • B. Education: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree;
  • C. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position.

To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have:

  • A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using biological practices, principles and techniques sufficient to assist in the recommendations of planning and implementing environmental, recreational and natural resource management activities at a water resources project; experience in natural resource management and related laws, policies and regulations as it pertains to biodiversity, threatened and endangered species, wetland protection, cultural resources and agricultural lease program, and executing field surveys, database management, data review and evaluation, contract administration and preparation of reports or correspondence in response to project issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09);
  • B. Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • C. Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position.

Conditions Of Employment

  • One-year probationary period may be required
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement over 25% of the time.
  • Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is designated as Non-Sensitive-No access security clearance.
  • This position may require you to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Boater's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate a boat.
  • The duties of this position may require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

  • Select is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
