Biologist/Ecologist

About the role

Arcadis is seeking a Biologist/Ecologist to join our Enviro Socio Permitting team in the Texas/Gulf Coast region. The successful candidate will lead field wetland delineations, field biology/habitat assessments, and general environmental assessments; and assist with reporting, agency coordination, and permit compliance.

The position will require working both collaboratively with a team of resource specialists, planners, and engineers and balancing varying priorities to work on multiple fast-paced, multi-faceted, geographically diverse projects concurrently while meeting deliverable deadlines. Arcadis offers a flexible, hybrid work structure.

Responsibilities

• Lead wetland and stream delineations, floral/faunal inventories, general habitat assessments, and other environmental surveys.
• Collect field data using handheld GPS units and tablets with Fulcrum, FieldMaps, Survey 123 for ArcGIS, or similar programs.
• Prepare draft technical reports, work plans, and other environmental documents to support environmental permitting.
• Support preparation of draft regulatory permit applications (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications, Section 401 Water Quality Certification applications, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 408 review requests, and Section 402 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit applications).
• Participate in agency consultations for threatened and endangered species.
• Manage desktop environmental assessments to identify potential permitting requirements.
• Travel up to 50%, including overnight travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or similar environmental discipline.
• 4+ years of experience in environmental planning and permitting, with demonstrated permitting experience in the arid west and Atlantic gulf coastal plain regions.
• Experience leading wetland delineations field teams.
• Knowledge of regional ecology, sensitive habitats, and special status species.
• Experience using GPS field technology.
• Experience writing technical reports, managing field data, and communicating with technical teams.
• Experience supporting permit applications, including Clean Water Act Section 404 permits, Section 401 Water Quality Certifications, and completing threatened and endangered species consultations.
• Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $76,110 – $114,165. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
