Bioinformatics Engineer – Software Development - PHP (Remote)

About the role

We are seeking a Full Stack Software Developer to join our Bioinformatics team, focused on advancing patient care through innovative software solutions. The successful candidate will design, implement, and maintain applications handling genetic data in a 100% remote capacity. Must be located in the US.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain software applications to meet user requirements and performance standards.
• Deploy and manage applications in the cloud for scalability and reliability.
• Participate in agile workflows, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Data Science, Bioinformatics) to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to ensure code quality.
• Conduct peer code reviews to uphold development standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of relevant experience in modern software development practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, version control, testing frameworks).
• Proficiency in PHP, Laravel, and MySQL.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and a test-driven development mindset.
• Excellent communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• At least 2-hour overlap with US and EU business hours for collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the health industry or interest in genetics and bioinformatics.
• Experience implementing cloud solutions (AWS preferred).
• Experience designing and working with JSON-based RESTful APIs.
