About the Role
We are seeking a self-motivated Biochemist I with production experience to join our purification team in a fast-moving and dynamic environment. This role is integral to manufacturing and providing purified antibodies for studies in precision medicine, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and stem cell research. The position reports to a team leader and ensures the highest quality of finalized antibody products.
Responsibilities
- Follow and understand SOPs and batch records, complying with ISO policies and procedures.
- Perform purification of monoclonal, polyclonal, and recombinant antibodies both manually and automatically.
- Execute essential functions related to antibody purification, including procuring reagents and tools, dilution, endotoxin testing, concentration, and buffer exchange of antibodies.
- Apply a basic understanding of antibody protein structures and antibody purification processes.
- Perform basic math calculations for antibody quantities, concentrations, and dilutions.
- Operate lab equipment, including AKTA(s), analytical balance, centrifuge, spectrophotometer, Nanodrop, UV detector, chart recorder, biosafety cabinet, and pH meter.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously, both individually and in a team environment.
- Assist in troubleshooting discussions and process improvements.
- Cross-train on a variety of supporting tasks.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related area, biotech certification, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant lab experience with column chromatography, analytical assays, and detection methods in a manufacturing setting or full-time academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s of science degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related area, biotech certification, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP databases to execute production orders.
- Experience with aseptic technique in a biosafety cabinet, basic protein purification, and analytical assays such as endotoxin testing, SDS page, IEF, and SEC.
- Proficiency in column chromatography and lab equipment such as AKTA, various sizes of columns, balance, pipette, spectrophotometer, Nanodrop, UV detector, agarose gel electrophoresis, endotoxin (LAL) tests, and pH meter.
- Ability to meet important deadlines and due dates.
- Strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Schedule
This is a 6-month contract position located in San Diego, CA.
