Bindery Operator - North

About the Role

We are looking for a Bindery Operator to join our team at Lakeside Book Company, the largest bookmaker in the United States. You will help move the finished product out the door and into the hands of readers across the country. No experience necessary—we provide all the training you need to succeed. Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines (e.g., cutters, folders, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines)
• Operate automatic bindery machines with multiple functions and stations (e.g., power paper cutters, collators, folders, speed binders)
• Inspect equipment for safety issues
• Operate automatic adhesive binding machines (perfect binders) with interrelated process stations
• Make adjustments to coordinate multiple work stations on a single machine
• Direct crew through all aspects of production, monitoring quality, output, and productivity

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of setup, adjustment, procedures, capabilities, and limitations of bindery equipment
• Comprehensive understanding of paper machinability (weights, sizes, types, colors) and conditions (moisture, curling)
• Ability to identify and execute unusual setups or machine combinations for unique printed materials
• Skill in using standard and specialized tools to adjust and maintain bindery machines
• Ability to make difficult adjustments using hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, punches, knives) and manufacturer-provided tools
• Skill in operating complex bindery equipment (folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, binding/gluing machines)
• Ability to read and interpret written work instructions for machine operations and dimensional accuracy

Additional Information

Preference will be given to candidates who agree to participate in cross-training, achieving qualified status in their role and serving as backups for lateral and progressive positions as needed.

Pay

Starting Rate: $23.30

Schedule

Work Hours: 6am–6pm (M/T/F/S/S/W/Th)
