About the role
Biltmore Estate Gate Security Officers are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of guests, employees, assets, and property, and will support and contribute to the world-class guest service experience that Biltmore offers.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage traffic movement to and from the estate, providing professional and hospitable assistance.
- Provide security and emergency response services for assigned locations.
- Support staff, guests, and vendors with access control for historic buildings, secured sites, and other property/assets.
- Operate ticket scanning devices and enforce entrance policies courteously.
- Accurately document security and safety-related events and complete reports according to protocols.
- Respond appropriately to threats such as severe weather, fire hazards, and other emergencies.
- Act as a first point of contact for guests in a warm, hospitable manner.
- Work in and around heavy traffic and large crowds daily.
- Operate security screening devices, such as walk-through portals or hand-held devices.
- Be thoroughly familiar with Biltmore Estate and grounds, including access/key control procedures and emergency protocols.
Requirements
- High school diploma required.
- Must have or be able to obtain AED, CPR, First Aid, and Crowd Management certifications.
- At least one (1) year of experience in guest services support, safety, security, or a related field preferred.
- Prior experience in safety/security within attractions, hospitality, or upscale hotel/resort environments with a focus on guest service is preferred.
- Commitment to delivering world-class internal and external guest service.
- Professional and polished appearance with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of a second language is helpful.
- Demonstrated ability to write and complete reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to evaluate situations, exercise good judgment, and handle guest/employee situations professionally.
- Proactive, with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Works effectively both independently and as part of a dynamic team.
- Ability to quickly learn Biltmore’s systems and protocols.
- Strong multitasking, prioritization, and adaptability skills.
- Keen attention to detail and ability to retain large amounts of information.
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
- Work inside and outside in all weather conditions with temperature fluctuations.
- Stand or walk for extended periods.
- Physically assist guests and employees as needed.
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; capable of lifting/pulling/pushing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Possess normal sensory acuity (sight, hearing, etc.) and handle multiple stimuli simultaneously.
- Ability to look at computer screens for extended periods.
Pay
Minimum pay is $17.09 per hour. Additional compensation will be considered for candidates with experience above the minimum requirements. Shift differentials are offered: an additional $1.25 per hour for the 2nd shift and $2.00 per hour for the 3rd shift.
Schedule
- Part-time position averaging 20-29 hours per week (1000–1559 hours annually).
- Flexible schedule with hours between 6:30 AM and 10:30 PM, including weekends and all shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd).
- Subject to occasional layoff periods based on business necessity.
