Billing Specialist

Location: Coos Bay, OR • Full-Time • $21.06 - $27.50 per hour

About the role

Responsible for multiple phases of the billing process to ensure acceptable cash flow and appropriate days in receivables by timely follow-up and resolution of balances owed by insurance companies and patients.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and submits claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
• Responsible for daily account follow-up.
• Answers questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.
• Researches and resolves credit balances, missing payments, and unposted cash as appropriate.
• Responds and maintains correspondence.
• Responds to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
• Communicates appropriately with insurance companies, patients, co-workers, and supervisors.
• Resolves insurance claim rejections/denials and remedies expediently.
• Meets minimum productive standards and assists with departmental coverage as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a medical setting; data entry of hospital and clinical financial systems preferred.
• Formal training or college coursework in lieu of experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of insurance processes, collection procedures, and regulations preferred.
• Proficiency with computers and business office procedures.
• Must be proficient in 10-key by touch and keyboarding skills.
