About the role
As a Billing Manager, you will own and scale a complex billing function across construction projects, hardware, and recurring SaaS revenue streams, ensuring accuracy, customer trust, and operational efficiency. This role requires a hands-on leader with proven management experience who can build and develop a team from the ground up while professionalizing the billing function into a structured, scalable, and best-in-class operation.
Responsibilities
- Billing Operations & Revenue Integrity:
- Own full billing lifecycle – Manage invoicing across one-time projects, milestone-based construction billing, hardware sales, and recurring SaaS services.
- Ensure contract-to-cash accuracy – Translate contracts, proposals, and change orders into billing schedules aligned with revenue recognition policies.
- Manage complex billing scenarios – Handle deposits, progress billing, retainage, change orders, and subscription modifications.
- Maintain data integrity – Ensure accurate billing data across CRM, ERP, and billing systems.
- Cross-functional Execution:
- Align billing with project milestones, installations, and completion timelines.
- Collaborate with Sales & Customer Success – Ensure seamless transition from deal close to invoicing and ongoing customer billing experience.
- Own billing escalations – Resolve disputes, discrepancies, and customer inquiries quickly while maintaining a high-quality customer experience.
- Revenue Operations & Financial Alignment:
- Support revenue recognition (ASC 606) – Partner with Accounting to ensure billing aligns with revenue recognition and audit requirements.
- Drive collections & cash flow – Partner with AR to improve collections processes, reduce DSO, and manage outstanding receivables.
- Build reporting & insights – Provide visibility into billed vs. unbilled revenue, deferred revenue, and billing performance metrics.
- Systems, Scale & Process Design:
- Design scalable billing infrastructure – Implement and optimize billing systems (e.g., NetSuite, Stripe, Zuora) to support hybrid revenue streams.
- Automate workflows – Reduce manual invoicing through system integrations across CRM (e.g., Salesforce), ERP, and project management tools.
- Prepare for scale & audit – Ensure processes can support rapid growth, audits, and increasing financial complexity.
- Leadership & Continuous Improvement:
- Build and develop the billing team – Hire, mentor, and scale a high-performing team aligned with company growth.
- Establish structure and best practices – Drive standardization, accountability, and process rigor to professionalize the billing function.
- Drive process excellence – Continuously identify inefficiencies and implement improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 6+ years of billing, revenue operations, or order-to-cash experience, including 2+ years managing teams
- Demonstrated experience managing and building teams, with a track record of scaling and professionalizing business functions
- Strong understanding of contracts, invoicing structures, and revenue workflows
- Familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition principles
- Experience with ERP/billing systems (NetSuite, Stripe, Zuora, or similar)
