About the role
The Collector is responsible to the Collections Manager/Supervisor for the efficient processing of assigned accounts. Contacts members delinquent members and obtain past due payments, commitment agreements, establish a repayment plan, or make recommendations to mitigate the Credit Union loss.
Responsibilities
- Contacts members delinquent members and obtain past due payments, commitment agreements, establish a repayment plan, or make recommendations to mitigate the Credit Union loss.
- Processes collection department payments via Western Union, Converge, ECM (ACH and Credit Card).
- Maintains established performance standards.
- Trains and mentors level 1 collectors.
- Aids in special collection projects.
- Sends collection letters and emails using expiration dates and notices that are appropriate with delinquency type.
- Recommends and prepares Workout Packets following approved Workout Program.
- Understands how to handle bankruptcy accounts.
- Has working knowledge of Repo process, letters, arrangements, fees, payments, and CPI.
- Skips Trace using approved sites.
- Understands FDCPA, collection procedures, and follows Chartway Credit Union Policy and Procedures.
- Assists in the area as directed by managers.
- Recommends loss prevention strategies that provide protection for the credit union with respect to its interest in collateral.
Requirements
- Must have a solid understanding of how to handle bankruptcy accounts.
- Working knowledge of Repo process, letters, arrangements, fees, payments, and CPI.
- Understanding FDCPA, collection procedures, and following Chartway Credit Union Policy and Procedures.
- Must be able to maintain composure with difficult or irate customers.
- Must meet or exceed all training requirements for Level 1 position.
Qualifications
- Education: High school education or equivalent GED.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Collections experience in any of these areas. Consumer loan, Mortgage, Fraud, Small Business and Student Loans or equivalent experience working mid to high level delinquency accounts.
Skills
- Communicate clearly utilizing proper grammar and telephone etiquette effectively and in a professional matter.
- Ability to correspond in a professional manner using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to refer to policy and procedures when applying information and making decisions.
- Ability to change quickly with the needs of the Collection Department.
- Ability to compute math calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Adherence to State and Federal collection and bankruptcy laws, rules, and regulations.
- Cross-Collateralization policies.
- Credit rating agencies and reports.

Pay
Hiring Range: $20 - $22 per hour (Higher compensation may be considered based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity)
Schedule
Monday-Friday 9:00am-6:00pm (1-2 Saturdays per month- 4-hr shift)
