About the role

The Bilingual (Spanish) Client Advocate plays a crucial role in reducing the transmission of HIV among men who have sex with men of color (MSMoC), including those who identify as transgender or gender nonconforming (TGNC). This position focuses on providing social support, health promotion, and navigating community resources.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate social/peer support events, including group facilitation for clients.
  • Create and post content for social marketing campaigns addressing HIV prevention and other health concerns for MSMoC.
  • Conduct outreach activities at high-risk venues to market the program in order to recruit new clients and re-engage former clients.
  • Develop action plans with clients enrolled in navigation or support services.
  • Follow-up with clients and with referral organizations regarding client contact and progress with referral organization.
  • In collaboration with program staff, work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves and in moving toward self-sufficiency.
  • Contact clients via telephone, mail and/or face-to-face home and office visits to ensure adherence to program, and document via progress notes.
  • Espouse clients to appointments (educational, medical, social service, etc.).
  • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports.
  • Create and maintain client files and make copies of all client documents.
  • Prescreen clients over the telephone for eligibility and may schedule intake appointments.
  • Aid clients in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms.
  • Schedule appointments for clients with referral organizations.
  • Input client data and client progress information into automated database.
  • Participate in evaluation activities, such as conducting surveys with support group and event participants.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education (English-speaking, -reading, -writing, & math abilities) to comprehend oral and written information and to assist callers and visitors and staff.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably in a mid-sized (250+ employees) organization.
  • Good written & verbal communication.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge about, understanding of, and ability to work closely with, persons with HIV/AIDS and related issues.
  • Experience and/or comfort conducting online outreach via social media and dating/”hook-up” apps and websites.
