Bilingual Medical Clerk
About the Role
Under the general direction of the Lead Medical Coordinator, the Medical Clerk assists with the coordination and implementation of medical services provided to Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC). The Medical Clerk uses sound medical and professional judgment and best practices to support the medical safety and well-being of UAC, working collaboratively with the Lead Medical Coordinator and Medical Coordinator to ensure medical, dental, mental health, and physical needs are met in accordance with agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards, and ORR Policy.
Responsibilities
- Compile, prepare, submit, and maintain accurate records, files, forms, statistics, and additional information in accordance with agency policy, DFPS Minimum Standards, and ORR Policy.
- Ensure medical services are completed and documented in the UAC Portal within required timeframes.
- Complete and submit reports within required timeframes.
- Provide health education and training for staff and UAC.
- Assist with the maintenance of medical supply, prescription medication, and over-the-counter medication inventories.
- Provide oversight and monitoring of medication administration to UAC, including medication counts, label accuracy, and reporting of medication errors.
- Maintain the safety and well-being of children through supervision, adherence to program policies, and appropriate interventions, including the use of approved crisis management techniques when necessary.
- Deliver client services and daily interactions within the Sanctuary Model framework.
- Schedule, accompany, and/or provide transportation to medical appointments when needed.
- Ensure medical services are provided in a manner that promotes best practices and facilitates the optimum delivery of quality trauma-informed care to UAC.
- Complete other assigned duties in the absence of the Medical Clerk or Lead Medical Care Coordinator.
- Actively participate in the enhancement and/or improvement of the living and working environment for residents and employees.
- Attend administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team-building activities as scheduled.
- Demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity of cultural norms, values, and heritage.
- Assume on-call duties after regular business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Adhere to safety training and protocols daily, taking precautionary measures to ensure safety and well-being.
- Protect the confidentiality of client information, services rendered, donor details, investigations, and financial information.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Morals Policy.
- Take a solution-oriented approach in interactions and promote collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
- Complete a mandatory 10-day New Employee Orientation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Requirements
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one-year employment experience in the medical field; experience in the child welfare field preferred.
- Medical training/education, program certification, or registry required.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver license, and valid vehicle insurance.
- Proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children:
- Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart), or born in the U.S. before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox, or titers indicating immunity, or documentation of previous infection.
- MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) or titers indicating immunity to all three diseases.
- DTaP or TDaP: complete primary vaccination series; if completed in childhood, one DTaP dose in adulthood.
- Influenza: one dose annually during flu season.

Physical Requirements
The position requires the following physical demands:
- Frequently: Lifting up to 10 pounds, reaching above/below shoulder height, sitting, walking, driving, stooping, standing, pushing, pulling, bending waist, balancing, talking, repetitive motions.
- Occasionally: Running, climbing.
- Rarely: Crawling.
This is a grant-funded position, and salary is dependent on funding availability. The position may be eliminated at any time due to lack of funding.
