About the Role

The Educator - Individualized Education Services provides services to students of all identified educational disabilities. This role involves managing a caseload, developing and monitoring Individual Education Plan (IEP) progress, adapting curriculum to meet student needs, and utilizing current instructional technology and adaptive equipment while meeting Common Core Standards. The position includes co-teaching in core academic subjects and participating in a collaborative team approach. This job reports to the Principal.

Responsibilities

• Administers developmental testing programs and/or subject specific assessments to assess student competency levels and/or develop individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, student achievements, develop methods for improvement, and reinforce classroom goals in the home environment.
• Advocates for student needs and ensures timely implementation of IEP components (e.g., Behavior Intervention and Health Care Plans) to support students in an educational setting.
• Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborates with parents, administrators, related services providers, and other professionals to develop individual education plans (including Behavior Intervention Plans) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social development.
• Commits to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color to provide access to interventions and other opportunities.
• Communicates consistently with administration to fulfill professional responsibilities; communicates with parents and outside providers to receive and share information.
• Completes Medicaid logging to document personal care and transportation services provided.
• Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem solving techniques, and a variety of personal issues.
• Creates, writes, monitors, and facilitates Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students on caseload to ensure individualized academic and social emotional needs are addressed.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to physical, medical, and learning styles of students with respect to their identified disabilities to support students.
• Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments to provide an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
• Develops plans for effective communication, monitoring progress, and collaborating with and supporting general education teachers of students in inclusive settings.
• Develops safety, evacuation, and behavioral plans, and oversees their implementation, for students who need specific interventions to maintain a safe and appropriate learning environment.
• Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective special education program and address the needs of individual students.
• Establishes and posts a schedule of daily and weekly service times with students to ensure compliance with IEP minutes and communicate with appropriate stakeholders.
• Establishes reasonable expectations and keeps detailed records for oral and written work and explains grading procedures to communicate and monitor student progress to all appropriate stakeholders.
• Facilitates student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined lesson plan.
• Instructs students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques (e.g., multisensory teaching, repetition to reinforce learning) to meet students' varying needs.
• Maintains desirable discipline standards in the classroom and assists, when needed, in other school areas with student disciplinary management to maintain a safe environment.
• Maintains positive professional relations with colleagues to come together as a team to support the needs of students.
• Manages and teaches socially appropriate behavior to promote self-regulation and safety.
• Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening skills, etc. to demonstrate appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
• Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips, nap times) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Oversees the scheduling of IEP meetings and the IEP process for students assigned to case load to ensure compliance.
• Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g., professional development, IEP, team) to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions and to support student needs.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
• Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g., IEP progress reports, grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Prepares materials and plans daily instruction appropriate to each assigned class and provides clear objectives for all lessons, including the ability to communicate these objectives to students, to provide appropriate instruction, modifications, accommodations, supports, and interventions.
• Promotes student respect for the rights of others in the classroom to create and maintain a positive learning environment.
• Recognizes safety and health hazards to eliminate them.
• Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to Education Code and school policies.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators) to resolve issues, provide information, and/or direction.
• Sets high expectations for all students to demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.
• Supervises and includes paraprofessionals to support the academic, functional, and social emotional needs of students.
• Operates copier, computer, standard office equipment, routine desk supplies, classroom materials, and playground equipment to provide an effective education program.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Illinois Professional Educator License or License with Stipulations.
• Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBSI) endorsement PK-2 or PK-22 required OR Early Childhood Special Education certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with students with emotional, behavioral, and academic needs preferred.
• Experience developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Knowledgeable about IDEA and the laws that govern working with students with disabilities.

Pay

• Minimum starting salary with Bachelor's degree: $56,920 (includes District paid TRS pension) - pro-rated to start date.
• Minimum starting salary with Master's degree: $62,042 (includes District paid TRS pension) - pro-rated to start date.
