About the Role

A General Manager must be committed to inspiring our team, helping our Customers succeed, and growing our business with integrity. This professional-level sales and management position supports both retail and professional customer functions. The role requires understanding of store systems, automotive systems, parts knowledge, and the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and assist DIY customers. It is an exempt position requiring a minimum of 50-55 hours per week, typically scheduled over 5-6 days with 11-hour shifts, including rotating nights and weekends. Additional hours may be required based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives.
  • Manage and grow Professional Customer relationships and sales, including building and holding the team accountable to executing Customer action plans.
  • Oversee selection, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and engagement of store Team Members.
  • Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards.
  • Coach all Team Members to deliver on Customer expectations (DIY and Professional).
  • Handle manager-on-duty responsibilities, including touch base/coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment and completion, safety, and open/close duties.
  • Lead change management initiatives.
  • Foster a respectful environment for both Customers and Team Members.
  • Provide DIY services such as battery installation, testing, and wiper installation.
  • Assist with other functions as requested by District/Region leadership.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience managing a team of 10-20 Team Members in a fast-paced, highly dynamic retail environment.
  • Successful experience managing profitability; proven financial and business acumen.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in business or a related area preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • ASE Certification preferred but not required.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of automotive systems preferred.
  • Fluent in English (Spanish a plus); strong communication and relationship-building skills with Customers, peers, and upper management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel required; PowerPoint preferred).
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percent.
  • Ability to review and analyze business reports, including profit and loss statements (P&L).
  • Ability to hold others accountable, inspect work quality, and provide inspiring feedback.
  • Ability to work varied schedules, including days, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Friendly communication and ability to locate and stock parts.
  • Safety knowledge and skills; ability to become ASE P2 certified or equivalent.
  • Advanced parts lookup and sourcing from multiple places, including special order, FDO, and second source.
  • Ability to execute and train on all store operational processes, procedures, testing, and diagnostic equipment for DIY services.
  • Ability to execute and train on inventory systems, store equipment, POS, and parts lookup systems.
  • Ability to recruit, select, hire, and develop quality Team Members.
  • Ability to build and grow relationships with Professional Customers.

Physical Demands

The role predominantly involves walking or standing. The employee must be able to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily indoors but may involve occasional outdoor tasks, such as installing batteries and wiper blades, exposing the employee to various weather conditions. The employee may also be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. The noise level is usually moderate.

Pay

The good faith estimate for this role is between $67,600.00 USD and $79,400.00 USD salary for a new team member. The rate offered depends on geographic location, experience in retail, automotive knowledge, education, leadership roles, and other relevant skillsets. Shift differential may apply if applicable.
