About the role
Teacher Fellows are given the opportunity to develop their skills in planning and delivering instruction while being supported by the instructional expertise of the Multi-Classroom Leader (MCL). This position is an entry-level instructional position. Under the leadership of the MCL, the Teacher Fellow will provide a second tier of support to scholars. Teacher Fellows co-plan instruction, deliver small-group instruction and manage the classroom environment alongside and in the absence of the MCL. Teacher Fellows also prepare instructional materials as needed. Coaching is provided to the Teacher Fellow through campus leadership, instructional coaches, the MCL, and professional development. The coaching and experience gained through serving as a Teacher Fellow can lay a foundation for success as a classroom teacher. Candidates are responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting activities contributing to the educational, social, and physical development of students to enhance their self-worth and equip them with the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to function in society. Considerable judgment, tact, patience, sensitivity, and flexibility are required to deal with students from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and learning styles. This position requires creativity and adaptive thinking to meet the social and academic needs of scholars. Wayside Schools is an open-enrollment, tuition-free Pre-K3‑12th grade public charter school network that provides over 2,200 scholars across its four South Austin campuses with a rigorous International Baccalaureate education. Since 2012, Wayside Schools has striven to empower historically underserved scholars, providing them with the instructional experiences, academic skills, intellectual habits and social and emotional competencies needed to become graduates from four‑year colleges and universities, providing them with the access and opportunities they need to narrate their own futures and positively impact and empower the families and communities to which they belong.
