About the role

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Minimum Qualifications

• Hold at least a bachelor’s degree and present official transcripts showing bachelor’s degree awarded.
• Certified in Texas as a Bilingual Generalist (EC-4), Bilingual Generalist (EC-6), Core Subjects (EC-6), or Elementary General.
• Demonstrate competency in the core academic subject area.
• Believe fully in the mission and vision of Jubilee Academies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill school curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation.
• Prepare an emergency lesson plan folder to cover two days of material.
• Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
• Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of students’ learning styles and needs.
• Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
• Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for SPED students according to guidelines in Individual Education Plans.
• Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
• Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
• Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
• Participate in extended-day and weekend school tutoring as required.
• Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
• Teach students to work toward self-discipline and responsibility.
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus Assistant Director.
• Be a positive role model for students and support the school’s mission.
• Ensure good student discipline by being regular in attendance and on time.
• Create a positive classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook using a discipline management plan that includes ground rules, a step process for reinforcement and consequences, and a posted lesson agenda.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, directors, and teachers.
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
• Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
• Arrive at first morning class 15 minutes before the class bell; work day begins at 7:30 a.m.
• Adhere to the staff dress code and maintain a good working relationship with Jubilee Academies staff and parents.
• Actively participate in two school committees and chair one committee.
• Keep the Jubilee Academies School Assistant Director informed of maintenance problems.
• Actively support and participate in fundraising activities of Jubilee Academies.
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
• Actively stay abreast of new developments in education.
• Convey the charter’s mission to the public and encourage support in accomplishing the mission.
• Illustrate understanding of charter and community needs and begin activities to meet those needs.
• Demonstrate productive and efficient skills to raise community and parent involvement.
• Actively participate in student recruitment efforts.
• Encourage a constructive, thoughtful climate for learning.
• Promote fairness for students and staff from all cultural backgrounds.
• Communicate with students and staff in an effective manner that promotes and sustains the Jubilee culture.

Working Conditions

• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Frequent and prolonged standing; stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing required.
• Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment and supplies.
