Role Overview

As a Behavioral Health Clinician, within the Mobile Crisis team, participate as a member of the service delivery team to provide risk assessments, crisis interventions, safety planning, coordination of care including discharge planning, brief interventions, group work and potential placement for clients. These services are provided to individuals who are in a behavioral health crisis or in need of longer-term respite care and whose needs cannot be accommodated safely in the community or in a less restrictive environment.

This position will cross-train to cover multiple sites including covering shifts at Garcia House, Behavioral Health Urgent Care, Mobile Response Services, and our Crisis Stabilization Unit.

Essential Duties

  • Provide on-going crisis assessments, crisis intervention techniques, conduct de-escalation, safety planning, and maintain clinical records and other reporting data for clients with mild to severe mental health and/or substance use disorders.
  • Observe clients in a variety of situations; assess mental status of client and formulate treatment plans and goals.
  • Perform case management services as needed to assist clients to meet their goals as stated in their service/treatment plans.
  • Refer clients to supportive services such as vocational, medical, social security, housing authority, etc.
  • Conduct crisis intervention via telephone and/or face-to-face. Intervene and de-escalate crisis situations with clients.
  • Assess the risk of harm to self or others, create comprehensive safety plans, and arrange needed resources.
  • Assist clients in improving their well-being and quality of life by training in behavioral skills; educating clients to make informed choices; developing clients coping skills, helping clients to problem solve, and negotiating tasks of daily living.
  • Document treatment plans, progress reports, group notes, individual notes, case management notes, letters, faxes and phone calls. Follow the proper protocol for documentation as set forth by Quality Assurance and to third party payor’s requirements that have contracts with SummitStone.
  • Maintain close and cooperative relationships with community agencies and other public agencies in carrying out treatment/recovery/service plans.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bilingual required
  • Experience working in a community-based behavioral health setting providing direct support and services to individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges is required or preferred based on level.
  • Advanced levels typically require two or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience coordinating mental health interventions and services with community partners and external agencies is preferred.
  • Completion of the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) Crisis Professional Curriculum through the OwnPath Learning Hub is required within 90 days of hire unless already Crisis Professional Certified.
  • Participation in a Substance Use Disorder training program is required upon hire where applicable.
  • COLORADO CERTIFIED ADDICTION SPECIALIST (CAS) CERTIFICATION IS PREFERRED OR REQUIRED FOR DESIGNATED LEVELS.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification is required at hire or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, is required.
  • Employees must maintain an acceptable driving record and may be required to safely transport clients to appointments, community activities, treatment programs, and partner agency locations.

Career Level Requirements

  • I. Completion of the Colorado BHA Crisis Professional Curriculum and Crisis Professional Certification; or Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Health, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field; or Master's degree in an unrelated field

  • III. Bachelor's degree in a related field plus Colorado Addiction Specialist (CAS) certification; or Master's degree in a related behavioral health field
  • Behavioral health licensure candidacy (e.g., LPCC, SWC, MFTC, or equivalent) or CAS certification as applicable
  • IV. Master's degree in a related behavioral health field
  • Active Colorado professional license such as LPC, LCSW, LAC, or LMFT
  • V. Master's degree in a related behavioral health field
  • Dual licensure and advanced professional credentials consistent with organizational requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of demonstrated experience working in a community-based behavioral health setting, providing direct support or services to individuals with mental health and/or substance use challenges preferred
