Gwinnett County Public Schools seeks a bilingual communications professional to join the creative team and promote the district’s vision, programs, and achievements.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and implement marketing and public-relations strategies, focusing on bilingual (English/Spanish) writing for internal and external audiences.
- Support and maintain relationships with news media, including Spanish-language outlets, as the primary backup to the Director for Community and Media Relations.
- Serve as the district’s point of contact for Spanish-language media to increase awareness of programs and resources for families and stakeholders.
- Lead research, reporting, and creative writing of high-impact feature stories and news releases in both English and Spanish to highlight district initiatives.
- Write thought-leadership content—speeches, opinion pieces, executive communications, talking points, and other materials—that advances GCPS priorities.
- Maintain editorial standards, ensuring accuracy in spelling, grammar, and adherence to GCPS style and policy in all written work.
- Brainstorm and develop new editorial and digital content projects in English and Spanish to enhance the district’s reputation.
- Proofread and edit internal and external publications, newsletters, and reports, providing feedback to contributors for quality control.
- Act as the primary backup spokesperson for GCPS, responding to English- and Spanish-language media and community questions.
- Assist in developing and delivering bilingual statements and key messages during critical issues or crises.
- Maintain positive working relationships with print, electronic, and Spanish-language reporters to ensure effective communication of district messages.
- Ensure equitable access to district communications by identifying key audiences and developing targeted outreach activities.
- Coordinate translation and dissemination of district-level communications to ensure access for non-English-speaking families.
- Collaborate with the Director to identify target audiences and expand the district’s community reach.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.
- Five years of experience in public relations, marketing, or journalism, with documented experience in media relations and/or crisis communication.
- Fluency in Spanish (written and oral) is required.
- Excellent writing, editing, and professional composition skills in both English and Spanish, with demonstrated ability to write compelling news releases and feature stories.
- Superior command of grammar and spelling in both languages, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare complex materials for release to print, electronic, and digital news media.
- High comfort level conducting on-camera and on-air interviews with news organizations in English and Spanish.
- Experience in crisis management and engagement strategies.
- Ability to manage multiple high-pressure situations and handle simultaneous requests for information.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others.
