Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain the physical workspace, ensuring it is safe, clean, and organized.
  • Oversee and conduct repair sessions, including offering guidance and mentorship for DIY bike repairs.
  • Manage inventory, including ordering parts and maintaining a record of repairs and bike fleet maintenance.
  • Support the functionality of multiple bike centres as needed, with travel between York and TMU campuses.
  • Provide cycling education to the public, including workshops, repair tutorials, and safety sessions.
  • Plan and execute community rides and other engagement activities.
  • Interact with clients and community members, serving as a resource for cycling knowledge and promoting the benefits of active transportation.
  • Develop promotional materials and collaborate with the Communications team for publicizing events and services.

Qualifications

  • Bike Mechanic Skills: Hands-on experience with bicycle repairs, including both modern and vintage bikes.
  • Public Engagement: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and inspire people about cycling.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate, adapt, and work effectively as part of a diverse team.
  • Organizational Skills: Capable of managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and keeping accurate records.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to beginners and community members.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to commute between campuses and adjust based on program needs.
  • Passion for Cycling: A deep enthusiasm for cycling, sustainability, and community engagement.

Work Environment

  • In-Person Employment: This position is entirely in person and requires commuting between campuses based on program needs.
  • Physical ability to lift bikes and parts (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
  • Availability to work occasional weekends or evenings as needed.
