About the Role

University Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is seeking a bi-vocational pastor who is clearly called by God to a pastoral ministry. We are a congregation committed to the authority of Scripture, Christ-centered worship, biblical discipleship, and reaching our community with the Gospel. The ideal candidate will be a full doctrine-driven pastor committed to faithfully preaching and teaching God’s Word, shepherding the congregation, and leading our church in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Faithfully preach and teach the inerrant Word of God in an exegetical manner, keeping the gospel as the central theme.
  • Provide spiritual leadership and responsible actions to promote a membership that understands the necessity of growing the church.
  • Shepherd and disciple the congregation through pastoral care, counseling, visitation, and prayer as needs arise.
  • Lead the church in evangelism, missions, and community outreach to promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Equip members for ministry and disciple believers of all ages.
  • Work collaboratively with church staff, deacons, and ministry leaders.
  • Officiate baptisms, weddings, funerals, the Lord’s Supper, and other pastoral responsibilities.
  • Foster Christian unity and fellowship while helping the church grow spiritually and reach the surrounding community with the Gospel.
  • Project a vision for the church to be a witness for Christ locally and globally, in keeping with Acts 1:8.
  • Primarily devote himself to the ministry of the Word as per Acts 6:4.

Qualifications

  • Meet all the qualifications of a pastor according to I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
  • Earnest relational and communication skills; ability to communicate in person and through writing in a way that is approachable, clear, kind, considerate, transparent, and welcoming to counsel.
  • Ability to care, shepherd, and relate to people in different walks and seasons of life.
  • Willingness to accept counsel for transparency and stewardship from all member input.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College Degree and/or extended evidence of significant educational accomplishment beyond high school level.
  • Church leadership position experience (pastor, deacon, etc.).
