Main Responsibilities
- Partner with business users, senior management, and IT stakeholders to understand analytical needs and translate them into actionable BI solutions.
- Work closely with commodity traders, risk managers, and business teams to ensure that the analytical solutions are aligned with market, trading, and operation activities.
- Gather, document, and validate business requirements; recommend analytical approaches aligned with business objectives.
- Translate complex commodity trading business problems into technical designs that deliver clear insights and measurable business value.
- Proactively engage with senior business stakeholders to identify areas of improvement in trading and shipping operations and support business development through data-driven insights.
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards to meet evolving business requirements.
- Build and deliver end-to-end analytical and automation solutions using Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and AI Builder tailored to the commodity trading and shipping business.
- Work closely with the data architect and data engineering team to design and deliver analytics-ready datasets through data ingestion, cleansing, and transformation.
- Document analytical logic, data models, and datasets to support advanced analytics and future enhancements.
- Act as the go-to expert for Power BI and data analytics–related user queries within the commodity trading and shipping domain.
- Conduct Power BI end-user training sessions and provide ongoing guidance and best-practice support.
- Promote effective BI usage patterns and self-service analytics across the organization.
- Advocate for the importance of data governance and business rules specific to commodity trading and shipping to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of trading decisions.
- Enforce BI governance standards and best practices to maintain data quality, consistency, and auditability, ensuring that data used in trading decisions is highly reliable and actionable.
- Maintain clear technical documentation, release artifacts, and operational procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Microsoft certifications in Power BI / Power Platform / Fabric are highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of commodity trading environments (oil, metal, gas, power, LNG, derivatives).
- In-depth knowledge of the trading lifecycle, including market trends, operation, PnL, positions, settlements, and risk management.
- Experience working with trading data (e.g., PnL, risk, positions, settlements) and ETRM systems is highly preferred.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Power Platform, with Power BI as a core specialization (SME level).
- Excellent SQL skills and solid understanding of data modelling concepts.
- Strong business analysis skills, capable of interpreting trading requirements and translating them into technical deliverables.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of exceeding stakeholder expectations, particularly in the context of trading and business analysis.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and well-organized, with strong time-management skills.
- Comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced, trading-focused environment.
- Team player with a collaborative mindset.
- Fully fluent in English (spoken and written).
